About:
The Custom Reports Bundle is a collection of custom html reports and dashboards for PowerSchool. The content in this bundle has been contributed by several members of the PowerSchool customization community. The bundle also includes the Custom SQL Reports customization created by Dean Dahlvang.

Features:
The 3.x release of the Custom Reports Bundle has many great new features.

  • New PS7 compatible layout on all reports
  • Report data is retrieved with AJAX. No more page refreshes to get results.
  • Most reports are now printable and sortable
  • Some reports are exportable to PDF and CSV
  • Performance improvements to underlying report queries.
  • Improved UI for report parameters

Known Issues:
Several reports are still undergoing a transition to the new layout. As a result some are not working.
Broken Reports

  • Schedule Course Demographics (/admin/reports/schedule/coursedemographics.html)
  • Sections with no room Assigned(/admin/reports/schedule/SectionnoRoom.html)
  • NY State Reports

Install Instructions - Custom Page Management:

To upload an entire zip you’ll have to be on PowerSchool 7. Then the steps are as follows:

Switch to District Office.
Use one of the 2 methods below to get to the import/export screen. I would click the export button on the screen listed below to make a backup of your current customizations so you have a backup copy.
A. PS Administrator->Custom Pages->Import/Export
B. District->Localization Administration->Import/Export Customizations
Export the current customizations as a backup.
After you have done that, click browse and select the PDS (or other customization) zip and then click import.

NOTE - The following steps will need to be done if using CPM, because of a bug in PowerSchool, to enable all the bundle features.
1. In CPM navigate to \scripts\tabletools\ click Add then Create Folder with the name swf, if it doesn't already exist.
2. Upload copy_cvs_xls_pdf.swf and copy_cvs_xls.swf from the \scripts\tabletools\swf folder from the unzipped download.
3. navigate to \images\css\theme\crm-css\ click Add then Create Folder with the name images, if it doesn't already exist.
4. Upload all the files from the \images\css\theme\crm-css\images folder from the unzipped download.

Install Instructions - Custom Webroot:
Unzip the downloaded file and place the included files in the same folder structure that exists in the zip in your data\custom\webroot folder.

We noticed that the Monthly Attendance Review report was not working for Semester 2 classes. When we did some testing, and it appears that the months area is not reporting correctly. If we select Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr or May and ask for a teacher's Sem2 class we receive the message "No School Days for this Month". If instead we select Aug 11 as the month, Semester 2 as the term, and the teacher's name, we get January's data. Selecting Sep 11 displays February's data.

It seems to work fine for our year long classes, but the Semester long or quarter long are not displaying accurately.

Thanks,
Karla

We've done some additional testing on this, and if we select:
Oct
Semester 1 & 2
And a teacher's name

We get both Oct and Mar data. The Oct data is for the Sem 1 class, and the Mar data is for the Sem 2 class. The 2 classes do not have the same course number.

Any suggestions on how I can correct this so that a user can just select Mar, Sem 2, and the teacher's name to obtain the Mar data?

Thanks!
Karla

After running the report for the current quarter with at least 5 daily absences, when we click on "Make these the active selection of students". a larger number of students is selected.
I installed the latest bundle, which seemed to solve the problem of selecting inactive students from previous years. The number selected is the same as when searching for a frequency of at least 1. Students exiting during the current quarter are also selected, which may be by design.

Thanks for your help - this is a well used report.

We haven't moved to PS7 yet but plan to over the summer. Can anyone point me in the direction for the latest version of Custom Reports Bundle for PS6?

During the new site revamp we decided to not post PS 6 content because it hasn't been supported for almost 3 months now. The Report Bundle for PS 6 stopped being updated when PS 7 came out. So there hasn't been any updates for almost a year.

We've noticed the same issue in some of our North Dakota schools, especially the large schools

What issue are you seeing? You didn't reply to a specific message so I'm not sure what issue you are having.

On some of our larger district sites when running the student attendance list for example, it really spikes the server resources. Everything slows to a crawl. If you try to run it for more than a week or two's worth of attendance data, the report will time out after 5 minutes or so.

Is there supposed to be a tab for "state information"?

it is a great tool to use by me to help our staff's convenient use than using quick export.

I am wondering if one more column can be added next to default value under Optional Parameters for comment box to instruct a staff what the codes mean.

For example
Param1 termid =2102
Param 2 school id = 400.

On the comment box on third column, I could add some as 1901 – 2009/1st Sem, 1902 – 2009/2nd Sem, etc so our staff can identify the codes? Let me know.

Hi,
I loaded the custom reports bundle ver 3.4, and on the Custom reports screen I clicked the button to switch to static. However, now I can't switch back to the dynamic format.
I tried reinstalling the page, but I still get the static reports screen. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

PDS Setup at the very bottom of the list. There is a option to go back on that page.

The Student Discipline Summary does not list any students in the report parameters. Any ideas?

I have a principal that has used the Course Demographics in previous years. We had it customized for VA codes. Is there a way we could get that coding so we can fix this report to show the federal ethnicity/race counts?
Thanks,

I have noticed after I did the bundle upgrade last month, many of my my sql reports are insanely slow. For instance, one I ran today (to get health screening data) took 12 minutes to fetch the data. And prior to the bundle upgrade, it would take probably a minute or so. Using the same query, I ran it in SQL Developer and it took two seconds. (I also upgraded to 7.12 at the same time.)

Oh, and the copy, csv, excel and PDF links do not work. (Print does, though.)

Thanks,

Marie

Please see the note at the top of the page.

I did that yesterday, didn't seem to help anything.

I have had the Report bundle installed for awhile. Lately, possibly after an upgrade, many of the reports say "loading" and it will stay on for hours. I downloaded the new bundle and upgraded them on my server last night at the KSPSUG Conference and am still getting the same issue today. Is there anyway to get these reports to run? I'm on verson 7.1.2

Thanks,

Nate Brown

Nate if you have a image server you will need to update the scripts/images folders as well. You can catch Jason or I while we are in KS and we should be able to help.

I am having an issue with the Student Attendance list not showing all the absences. It will only print 2 pages and the second page is blank. On the first page are 21 absences and this student has way more than 21 absences. We are only showing Meeting attendance. Thanks.

I just tried to run the Projected Enrollment Summary and I am not getting any results. What am I doing wrong?
The report is giving me the following: Projected Enrollment Summary as of 4/5/2012
With no data.

Will be fixed in the bundle version.

Thanks, I got the projected report to work. I have a question.

If we want to limit a school to only see the projected enrollment for their school. How would we modify the code?

Thanks

I would like to remove the Custom Dashboards Tab from appearing on my server. Can you point me to the page that contains the Custom Reports Bundle 'tabs'? Thanks for your help!

You can edit the \admin\reports\reporttabs.html file to remove the tab.

I have several custom reports that were created in our district that used to be under the custom reports tab. One of them was an attendance report. I tried modifying the attendance.html file and adding the report to it but it still doesn't show up. Also if I do it this way will I have to modify the attendance.html everytime we apply a custom reports bundle update? Thank you.

You can look at a existing report (unrendered) to see how the CRM START and CRM END are used to make a report show up in the dynamic menu system.

I managed to get one of our custom reports in the menu but now it's showing at both the District level and the school level and I only want it to show at the school level. I had added it to attendance.html in between the ~[if.is.a.school] and [/if.is.a.school]. Also, will I have to make these changes to each tab html whenever there is an upgrade to the custom reports bundle?

I found the line I was missing. Now I just need to know if this will have to be done whenever we apply an update. Thank you.

You won't have to edit it after this, this is what is nice about the dynamic version. You can drop the report in and it will find any/all reports. And when you upgrade the bundle it will only update the reports included in the bundle and it will find yours as well.

So I didn't need to modify the attendance.html file? (sorry I'm new at this.)

Not unless you use the Static view of the bundle.

That is fantastic! Thank you very much.

You can add in the CRM Meta data area.

Is this customization still available for PS 7? Our Food Services Director is requesting it and claims other districts are using it. Any help would be appreciated.

When we uploaded the latest PS version 7.1.3 and the latest state reporting update amd64-7.1.3.0.128711 April 2, the enrollment summary report broke, and all our custom sql reports disappeared AND the custom reports loads forever. It doesn't seem to make any difference if I click on the Dynamic menu or leave it unclicked.

I am looking for a log entry/discipline report that would report all details of the incident. Specifically, I am looking for one to report all students that had an occurance and/or incident for a certain time period. I have created the same in object reports, but it prints all students - and includes incident details for the students who have had this. Any thoughts on what I need to add to the report to report only those specific students?

There is one in the report bundle, but it does not work on my system.. is there a known issue or am I doing something wrong?

I have not loaded the report bundle, but will if the report works. Has anyone else downloaded this customization and does this report work for you?

Marie Prescott

Fixed after applying the patch on top of a working 3.4.1 install.

How do you find the instruction time report if you are using the static version of the page.

The static version is intended to be used if the the dynamic report system doesn't work. The static version will eventually go away and should be used if the dynamic version doesn't work for you. If that is the case please let us know because I haven't heard of a issue with the dynamic version in months.

Brian,

I wouldn't say that the dynamic doesn't work as it's intended. For a user like myself, I appreciate all of the great reports contained within and I could get used to using the dynamic pages, but there are a couple of factors that our district has to contend with.

Our users are not all experts at Powerschool let alone using computers, so we try to limit change that could lead to confusion, we are a very small department and don't have the staffing to coddle them. So for use, the appearance is a concern. The static version follows the same formatting as the other report pages, so is a familiarity for our users, they know how to navigate the static page.

For some of our users, having a full list of reports is quicker if you are not quite sure which report you want to use, i.e. use the browser to search for the word student. Plus the full list will give them the familiarity of some of the other reports they could run. On the dynamic page, if they just look at Grading, they wouldn't necessarily know there were new reports in attendance.

I have some custom reports that are only used at specific buildings, I use a school pref to set whether the school uses those functions. Out of the box in the dynamic page, it would be displayed for all schools, so I would have to look into making conditionals in the dynamic pages to try to keep it hidden from the other pages. Using a simple if tag on that preference to hide/show the row in the table is currently a lot quicker to implement, I just have to merge my rows with any new rows from the package. Lastly, I have other reports that I hide in the reports folders, I wouldn't want those appearing to the general users at all, I remember the address for when I need them.

So if there was an "All" tab that grouped the reports like the static page, and a simple way to control building level access to reports and hiding reports altogether, then I would be more inclined to use that system.
Though I also fear how much it would entail modifying the dynamic code to meet my needs and then how much would be involved in the future to comparing my code to any updates made in future versions of the package, I've got too many other obligations to juggle so keeping things as simple as possible is a necessity.

The school part has already been taken into consideration, Brent's pretty cleaver like that. If you add <meta name="match_schoolid" content="100,200" /> in the meta tag area of the report then the report will only show when logged into schoolid 100 or 200.

You can also do match_securitygroup and define the group numbers.

Cool huh?

I installed the custom reports bundle this morning. I followed all the steps and things look really good. However, I have a few reports with error icons. The instructions given in the alert window confuses me completely. How do I as the administrator change the preference name for "allow_expanded_tlist_sql" for the Daily Attendance Counts by Date, Code, and School? Thank you, Amy

You have to be a group 9 (Administrator) user to set this preference.

Thank you so much!! I love these reports, you guys are awesome!

How do I get the rerun option back for a submitted report

We just moved to version 7.1.3 over the week end. I am not seeing the Daily Attendance Summary (attCurrentPercent.html) from the District Office. However, I can see it from the School. Is there anything else that I need to do? I have the reports bundle version 3.4.0

Hello - I uploaded the reports bundle today. I tried to run the log entry search, but the report indicates - waiting for report parameters. The report parameters bar does not allow me to enter - has anyone else had this and/or am I missing something? Thank you.
