UPDATE: V1.1 includes the Parent Demographic Update not included in V1.0 and also fixes an issue with images not appearing on the Guardian Home Page.
This is a new Parent Portal with more options for student screens.
Allows a school or district to show or hide icons on the public portal. The solution now cleans up the automatic e-mail page options when those options are hiden from normal view and displays a message when the grade & attendance page is hidden. Incorporates Roger Sprik's customization that allows a student to submit course requests just one time.

Demographics update; icons reverting to original
Hi,
We have installed this enhanced parent portal (fantastic by the way!!) on our test server as we are preparing to open this up to parents soon. I noticed when logged on as a parent/guardian, when I make a change on the demographics update page, then hit submit, the icons on the top then revert to the original icons, rather than the custom ones that I checked off. Am I missing something?

Demographics Verify seems to generate error on page
I am having trouble with the parentdemochange.html page. When clicking on the Approve button, it generates an error and does nothing. I am not sure if this is an issue with the parentdemo.js or if it is just a problem that I am only experiencing. Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

When clicking on the discipline icon, no info displays - it indicates there are no log entries for this student. I have tried several students with multiple types of log entries entered for them.
Exactly what info from a log entry is supposed to display under this icon - what am I doing incorrectly?

Customizing the Header for MultiLingual Pages
I was asked to modify the parent portal to show the Icons in Spanish, Portuguese and French Creole. We had an translator take the original parent portal and translate the wording into each of the languages. My question is how can we make this modification so that the page that is displayed is based on the native language setting within powerschool. For instance if the family speaks spanish at home, we want the page to be displayed in spanish after they authenticate to the portal.
Any suggestions?
icons don't change on the screen with grades
I have one problem with this customization... It lets me change the icons on the parent portal but when a parent clicks on a class grade for grade detail, the old icons are all there.... How do I fix this? What did I do wrong?

If you are using the "Web Gradebook Assignment Upgrade" please make sure you installed the guardianenhancedparentportal version. There are 2 versions included one with the Enhanced Parent Portal modifications included and one without.

Hi,
I love the ability to turn on and off the icons!
When I hit submit on the autoemail screen the guardian header does not display correctly. The student's name is there but his grade_level is wrong and the school preferences for the icons is not picked up. Your click on an icon, then the header is displayed correctly it's just the changesrecorded screen that is incorrect.
Has anyone else seen this?

There's a problem with the coding on the changesrecorded.html custom page. Where you see ~(schoolid)=1 like in ~[if.pref.nohomedisplay~(schoolid)=1] it should actually read ~[gpv:schlid]=1 like in ~[if.pref.nohomedisplay~[gpv:schlid]=1]. So if you find the instances where ~(schoolid)=1 occurs and replace them with the change it should work, however, I'm not sure if it'll work on the nextschool ones.
For some reason, the changes recorded page works differently than the rest, so with the original customization I added a part to the autoemailsetup page submit link so the schoolid is passed to the changes recorded screen. The gpv command then pulls it down and uses it on that page and hides the icons. I see in this version the link is still that way on the autoemailsetup page, but the gpv stuff was dropped. If the next school part doesn't work right, then it would be a matter of doing something similar for it. The link on the autoemailsetup page looks like this - form action="changesrecorded.html?schlid=~(schoolid)" method="POST" - and you could add to it if needed.

Maybe I've missed something, but after changing to the ~[if.pref.nohomedisplay~[gpv:schlid]=1] like suggested for all references, I still had items appearing that were turned off.
Is there an issue with the preferences referenced?
I ended up copying the section of code from the guardian header file and changed the link to the passed schlid like above, so for example getting ~[if.pref.gradesattendance~[gpv:schlid]=1].
This did hide the icons like I expected it to.
Also, I notice that the Autoemailsetup page is the same issue.

I've been testing out this customization on my test server today. Is there a notification that gets sent via email when a parent changes demographic information?

Just downloading it now. We are looking for a custom solution to allow parents to update some contact data (e.g. phone nubmers, email, etc.). Ideally this solution would allow family mgmt functioning, so that when a parent updates an email for one of their kids, the update applies automatically to their other kids. Any way this might be done?

Try Enhanced Parent Portal. You'll probably need to modify it to get the fields you want in. Plus, if it's set up like I think it will be then the parents update into custom fields. A user on the admin side validates those custom fields and a javascript moves the information from the custom field to the real field once it's approved/verified.
To get that data to move to the siblings just add those fields to the linked fields in the Family Management setup area. We have all kinds of custom fields in there too, any student field can be synced between siblings.

The Enhanced Parent Portal is awesome.
One thing I've found though is that the Student login does not allow password reset or email notifications to work...which is a big issue for my middle school that only sent out student passwords for the families to use...
Is it possible to allow the password reset and email notifications to work on the student login page?

I'm not sure what works or doesn't work with that particular page because we have absolutely no intentions of using it. We feel that it is our responsibility to teach internet safety and part of that goes to not changing passwords to something that can be easily guessed. We know we aren't there yet and feel that allowing parents/students to choose their own password when we know it is free text on the admin side means that we will start getting personal information that we have no business knowning. Parents are very likely to use a password that gets into all of their accounts anywhere and we don't need to know that and I don't want my users to know anything about that.

Need Icon Help!
Installed the new (20 minutes old!) version cause we just jumped to 5.2. Naturally the documentation isn't there yet. But could you tell me where I'm supposed to put the btns? The Icons for the new options are not showing on the Parent Portal AND there is a weird "A" icon on the district portal page. I tried the suggested folder "guardian" as well as moving the btn_s to "images". Suggestions? (I'd hate to uninstall!)
PS This is on our live machine as we have no test server for 5.2(!)

Actually the images are supposed to be exactly where they are in the unzipped folders. They go in the guardian folder and all the references will get it from there.
In addition, I don't think the version was 20 minutes old, the last time it was downloaded was 20 minutes before you downloaded it. A new version is coming out very soon with some minor tweaks.

District/Portals?
Hi Jason, you were right--the buttons work on the Parent Portal now--thank you. However, I still have "A" on the District Parent Portal setup screen instead of the Icons. Oddly, I could not find this code: admin/district/portals.html in either of the download versions as noted in the documentation. Am I blind? (I'm sure many others have successfully installed this)

The "A" are what is supposed to show up from the admin side. If you click on the "A" it will fill in all the check boxes for the items below it. I think A stands for "All".

Graduation Icon
I am not able to see the icon when I select to see the graduation progress on the parent screen. What should I be looking for? I was also wandering if there is a way to show only the lunch balance in balances and not the fees.

Just make sure you do the following:
1. Load the wildcard "guardian_header.txt" in your wildcard folder and restart your server to update the wildcards (unless you know how to without restarting the server).
2. Make sure all the images are in your guardian folder. If you put your images in the images folder, you will have to change the code on the "guardian_header.txt" file to direct to "/images/image.gif" instead of "/guardian/image.gif"
If you want to know what the actual icon looks like, look at the ... well, just found my first mistake. I will update my guardian_header.txt file and update it... it included a http://fw.diocesefwsb.org:8090 in front of the image, which needs to be removed. You can either load the new "guardian_header.txt" file or just remove that line from the wildcard that you downloaded already. Sorry for the error... :(

Discipline on Parent Portal

I am having problems with any discipline logs displaying after installing the enhanced parent portal v 1.1 - Jason indicated that this was your customization - any help would be greatly appreciated.
Everything seems to be working, when I click on the discipline icon, it says no log entries found for this student. I tried several students with several types of log entries entered for them.
I am under the 'gun' as administration wants this asap - any help would be appreciated.

Extract Problem
When I try to extract this with Windows Extract All choice after right clicking on the download, I end up with only two files, both of them 0 KB in size. If I extract using something else, like 7-zip, I get the files.
Also, the home.html page that goes into the district folder is missing the Incident Management link for 5.2.

When I do another update, I'll be sure I have the Incident Management link in there. I don't have 5.2 installed, so I don't know the specifics about that yet. Somebody verified that it worked with 5.2, which is why it was "approved" for 5.2... :)
