Custom Reports Bundle 1.0.6 (beta)

Wed, 01/27/2010 - 10:37pm  •
Submitted by jtreadwell  •

Custom Reports Bundle is designed to allow you to update all of the reports for version 6.x of PowerSchool in one download. It includes brand new screens to replace the custom reports home package from PowerSchool 5.x and lower, all the reports referenced are included in the bundle, and some new reports are included.

** Documentation has not been written yet which is why the package is still in Beta. Please do not attempt to implement if you are not familiar with the usual Power Data Solutions implementation. All pages are located in the same folders as they exist inside the zip file. While labeled a beta all reports have been tested and technically work. Some reports have a few areas to be improved for future release

Features:
- Utilizes new tabbed reports page
- 4 new reports sponsored by New Visions Charter Schools
- New Final Grades Setup Report: View how teachers setup their gradebook final grades
- Most reports now allow for the use of the currently selected students
- Many familiar reports have visual updates
- Custom SQL Reports customization has been included
- 4 custom dashboards in beginning phase of development.

Reports were built by Power Data Solutions contributors and are included on behalf of all original designers.

The running documentation can be found at http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddt38st7_140hk2wctf5. We will try to update it when possible. The change log is in there and will continue to be updated regularly.

PATCH - Added a updated \admin\reports\reporttabs.html for 1.0.6 that corrects the sqlReports page missing new and edit links.

Final Grade Setup Report

Submitted by Patti_Chappell on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 4:53pm

I am having problems with this report not returning data under certain parameters.

If I leave everything at the default, when I first bring up this page and choose nothing, I get no data returned.

If I choose S1 for the bin, I get no data returned.

If I choose a department, only a partial number of department members come up - not all. All teachers are assigned to a department.

If I choose a course, data is returned.

If I choose S1 for the bin and pick teachers individually, it returns data, with the exception of one teacher. His name has an apostrophe in it - could that be the problem with his?

Any ideas what is going on?

Thanks!

Detailed Grade Information

I am also unable to get any results from the Detailed Grade Information report. I'm sure it would give my counselors exactly what they are looking for if I could get it to work. I downloaded the latest bundle version and installed it on my test server running 6.1. The Final Grade setup report is awesome...what a great tool!! Thanks so much

final grades setups

Submitted by MackHucks on Wed, 02/17/2010 - 9:09am

We are looking at the final grades setups report and we are trying to understand what we are looking at. For many teachers, we see multiple names/weights repeated. Can someone help me understand what I am looking at?

Re: final grades setups

Submitted by brian_andle on Wed, 02/17/2010 - 3:08pm

The report shows how a specific Teacher weights each class. If a Teacher uses weighting it's important that they setup the same weight for all the appropriate classes. The report should show what a Teacher enters in the Grade Setup area of PowerTeacher Gradebook.

Final Grade Setup

Is there a way to set it up so more than one teacher's set up can be seen? On the drop-down it has all teachers as an option so we were just wondering.

Re: Final Grade Setup

Submitted by brian_andle on Fri, 02/26/2010 - 10:46am

Not the way it's currently written. You could setup Course Departments to narrow the classes down. So you could do Math, LA, Science, History and then a Dept for each Shop. If you went this route I would make the Course Dept match the same in all the schools. That's what I would do anyway. B. Andle Windham Tech Electronics 1998. :)

Failed to Connect

Submitted by mark.koncewicz@... on Fri, 02/26/2010 - 3:44pm

Thanks for the speedy response. We are also getting a "Failed to Connect" error when we run it off of the test server. Any idea why this would occur? It ran fine for a while and then we started getting this error again.

I too was able to run this report for a school and now that I have gone back to run it again all of a sudden I am getting the Failed to Connect error. No changes have been made to cause this.

I'm working with the sponsor school and we think we have found the source of the issue. Updates will be released soon.

Thanks Brian, I indented to aim my question at why I was seeing the multiple names & weighting repeated (like 3 E1's, 3 S1's, 3 S2's, etc. in each cell). I put a distinct clause in the st variable part and this stopped the repeating.
Nice Code!

Re: final grades setups

Submitted by brian_andle on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 8:44am

Is for a bunch of Teachers or just one? You shouldn't need the distinct code, that would imply that there could be a Gradebook or Term Bin issue later down the road.

Re: final grades setups

Submitted by MackHucks on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 11:02am

This is happening on over half of the Teachers that I have viewed.

I would look at a Gradebook

Submitted by brian_andle on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 11:17am

I would look at a Gradebook that doesn't have multiples against one that does. The other thing to try is to change a Teacher Weight and see if all the duplicates also change. Maybe there are some old bad records.

Also are you using the newest Report Bundle?

Re: final grades setups

Submitted by MackHucks on Thu, 02/18/2010 - 12:55pm

I have compared 2 gradebooks (one duplicating and one not) and I cannot find any difference. I have attempted to change and make them look identical and the duplicates continue.

I believe I have fixed it from a previous readers post.....Wonder how the includes got in the report folder???

I just uploaded the new files and I do not have a submit button on any of my pages.....I have uploaded all of the report bundle in the past without any problems.....what am I doing wrong?

Re: Bundle 1.0.6

The includes folder was moved from \admin\reports to \admin. The includes folder is included in the download and needs to be placed in the admin folder.

Consecutive Absences Report only works for one of my schools.

Submitted by duhlig on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 1:39pm

The consecutive absences report that is part of the bundle works well...but it includes results for only one of my schools. I am a district admin, and not tied to any one school. Any ideas?

re: Consecutive Absences Report only works for one of my schools

Submitted by jtreadwell on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 10:42pm

It's been a while since I built it but I think it's a Daily Attendance only report. So my guess would be that one school uses daily attendance and the others use meeting. I have plans on updating to get all the attendance reports to work for meeting or daily attendance, but for now I think that one is Daily only.

Gotta be something else

Submitted by duhlig on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 7:54am

Your are correct that the consecutive absences report uses daily attendance only, but only one of our nine schools uses meeting attendance only. All the others schools use daily attendance. When I am at the school level for a school that takes daily attendance in homeroom, I get no results. However PowerSchool's native absentee reports work fine. What am I missing here? Final Grade Setup page

Submitted by Hackert on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 1:15pm

As everyone has said, Thank You! all. Some of these are invaluable... and then comes my question;

My Final Grade Setup page does not pull up any Course Terms in FireFox or IE, but does in Chrome. But even in Chrome, it shows all the right info in the dropboxes but never shows any results. My guess is that there is a Submit button which doesn't show up on my server. Not having a test server, I am adding my favorite pages one at a time. So what pages do I need to make this run? I obviously have the finalGradeSetups page and I added the Basic fix for the tlist-sql error on the District-Misc page. Anything else?

And thanks again for the great work! We just had an issue which is going to result in reprinting over 100 report cards... this report would have prevented it. What a blessing!

Make sure to install all the files included in the download. Including the "includes" folder which makes up the header/footer and option area of the reports.

Tabs

Submitted by riordd on Fri, 01/22/2010 - 4:09pm

There's a problem with the tabs in that the new ones are not large enough. The code needs a break and a space after the tab's title.

re: Tabs

Submitted by jtreadwell on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 12:29pm

Actually that's not true. The problem is that the css has changed. An updated version of the bundle will be out later today. Thanks for the heads up though.

Web_root vs Custom Page Management?

Submitted by dcswecker on Thu, 01/21/2010 - 8:11pm

So, I'm very new to PowerSchool. I have customized some pages and added some custom pages, all through PowerSchool Administrator (Custom Pages Manager). Now I am told that I cannot use this report bundle unless I am using the web_root directory for my custom pages. Is this true? And if so, do I need to copy all my custom pages from the manager into the web_root directory and then disable the Custom Pages Manager? Thanks for any help; I really want these reports! deb

Re: Web_root vs Custom Page Management?

Submitted by brian_andle on Fri, 01/22/2010 - 7:55am

You can use the Reports Bundle with CPM as far as I know. The issue is going to be that you need to upload each file and create the directory structure to match the one in the zip file. There is somewhere around 150 files so it's going to take you some time to do, and if there is a update to the bundle you will need to update the files that were updated in the update.

I personally have easy access to the PS server directories and files so I don't use CPM.

Reports Bundle

Submitted by dcswecker on Fri, 01/22/2010 - 4:21pm

The reports bundle has 4 files named home.html. Should only the most recent one be used? deb

Make sure to extract the files first. There are multiple home.html files but they are located in different folders.

Search Att by Freq Report

Submitted by Michael.Moore on Thu, 01/28/2010 - 4:26pm

To keep only active students you need enroll_status = 0. This field exists in the students table which without viewing the code I can't say for sure that the table is in the query or not.

Teacher Verification

Submitted by jbocrie on Fri, 01/15/2010 - 10:50am

I am able to run this report and get all of the sections. I don't have the date and verification showing.
I'm not sure why. In my sections table, i have the grades_verified and grades_dateverified. I am testing a few teachers.
Unverified sections shows all sections. Verified shows no sections and All shows all sections. I have manually entered info in these fields with no luck.
For some reason this SQL version doesn't seem to be working. I substituted the nonSQL version and it worked. Any thoughts?

Detail Grade Information and Fees Transaction reports

The Custom Reports Bundle is amazing!! Thank you all for your efforts to create these reports!

The Detail Grade Information report is not working for me. No matter what I enter in the various drop-down lists, I do not get any results. Do you have any suggestions?

The same thing is happening with the Fees Transaction Report. The Fees Report works, but I do not get any results with the Fees Transaction Report.

I have downloaded and installed the latest version, 1.0.5.4. Thanks for any help you can give me.

These are terrific reports

Submitted by kmckinstry on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 2:47pm

These are terrific reports and a majority of them are working for me. I am getting a 100% passing rate for all of my students and teachers, no matter the term that I select - (perpassing.html) Should I be setting a passing percentage on the page somewhere or is it a part of the graduation progress? Thanks for your help. It is awesome to see these grades distribution charts load.

re: These are terrific reports

Submitted by jtreadwell on Wed, 01/06/2010 - 3:15pm

This report says you're passing if your grade percent would earn graduation credit and you're failing if you don't. This way if your maximum passing percent is 64.5 then it obeys that, if it's 65.0 then it uses that, if it's 70, etc. Check your grade scale and see if every grade earns graduation credit.

Tabs not displaying properly

Submitted by andersonj@parkh... on Thu, 12/31/2009 - 11:55am

I moved the entire package from my test server where it displayed perfectly, to my live server and the only thing that's not working is the tabs. The headings are there but not the nice, neat little tabs. I'm also getting a strange little symbol on the page and I can't find for the life of me where it's coming from. I've copied over the admin/reports/home.html, admin/reports/runreports.html, any wildcard I can think of, etc and it still won't show the tabs properly. My test server is a stand alone and my live side is on an array.

Any thing you can suggest?

Detail Grade Info Report - Name Duplicated

Submitted by kb4travel on Mon, 12/14/2009 - 6:46am

We are using the Detail Grade Information report in the Reports Bundle which I heard about at the SysAdmin conference in Michigan. First off, I'd like to say:
If you created this report, THANK YOU!!! This is exactly what we were needing to correct problems we have been seeing in our gradebooks over the last 2 years. The work that you put into this report is VERY much appreciated!!

The report is working great, and the problem that is described below is not a problem with the report, but I'm sure a problem within the gradebook. I'm hoping that someone has an idea of what might be causing this issue.

One teacher, in one section has category names that are duplicating. The teacher has the following show up on the report:
Assessment = 60
Assessment = 60
Assignment = 20
Assignment = 20
PE Participation = 20
PE Participation = 20

When we look at that section in the Gradebook, each of those items is only entered once. They are not duplicated.

What would be causing this? How can we correct it?

Thanks again to the creator!!

This is our first time installing your custom reports. What could be wrong? We are using our PS 6.0 test server.

Gradebook Percent vs Letter Grade is not the correct report.

Submitted by Serg on Wed, 11/18/2009 - 8:42am

I tried using "Gradebook Percent vs Letter Grade" and the results did not make any sense. So I looked at the Tlist_sql code on the gredebook_percentvsletter.html and I should say it definitely does not do what the report name implies.

Can you check that?
