Custom Reports Bundle 1.0.6 (beta)

Custom Reports Bundle is designed to allow you to update all of the reports for version 6.x of PowerSchool in one download. It includes brand new screens to replace the custom reports home package from PowerSchool 5.x and lower, all the reports referenced are included in the bundle, and some new reports are included.

** Documentation has not been written yet which is why the package is still in Beta. Please do not attempt to implement if you are not familiar with the usual Power Data Solutions implementation. All pages are located in the same folders as they exist inside the zip file. While labeled a beta all reports have been tested and technically work. Some reports have a few areas to be improved for future release

Features:
- Utilizes new tabbed reports page
- 4 new reports sponsored by New Visions Charter Schools
- New Final Grades Setup Report: View how teachers setup their gradebook final grades
- Most reports now allow for the use of the currently selected students
- Many familiar reports have visual updates
- Custom SQL Reports customization has been included
- 4 custom dashboards in beginning phase of development.

Reports were built by Power Data Solutions contributors and are included on behalf of all original designers.

The running documentation can be found at http://docs.google.com/View?id=ddt38st7_140hk2wctf5. We will try to update it when possible. The change log is in there and will continue to be updated regularly.

PATCH - Added a updated \admin\reports\reporttabs.html for 1.0.6 that corrects the sqlReports page missing new and edit links.

Multiple Student Attendance List in Custom Reports Bundle

We use the custom reports bundle in our district and have problems with the Multiple Student Attendance List report.
Whenever the All Absent Codes choice is selected from the drop down list the report runs correctly.
However, when a single code is chosen ( I have been trying to use just UA) the following message appears:
Alert: Security Violation Logged
Attempted to run an unauthorized actions. This activity has been logged.
How can we get rid of this?

Reports not showing

I am new to PDSolutions, heard a recommendation for it at PSU. This is our first year. I've loaded all the reports in the bundle and the custom tabs page displays perfectly. A few of the reports show up on the custom reports page, but not all of them and I can't figure it out. I've loaded them all on our test server with no problem. The only thing I can think of is that our test server is not an array and our production server is. I've done things exactly the same way - I even tried it on a second test server to see what I could have done wrong but there's nothing. The only difference is the array. Could anyone shed some light? is there a significant difference in the way the package works on an array and how the pages update? I'm at a loss here and would really like to use two of these reports yesterday.

By the sounds of it the files are all in a single folder instead of sub folders. When you extract the files from the zip make sure to extract the entire zip and not copy and paste out of the zip utility. If you extract the entire zip you will get the sub folders that are needed.

Same problem

I've got the same problem. I find that I can type the URL of the files I've uploaded and the page partially loads, though the format is messed up. I can also type the direct link to one of the reports and view it. The one in particular I'm trying to run is the SectionLoad report. The report page comes up but everything is off center, the images all appear in the upper left hand corner and when I run the report it returns no results. I've synchronized custom web root, run the tlist_sql command to enable the customization, even deleted and re-added the home page inside each folder, but no success.

I've noticed the same thing as you said here, too. I can load, view, and run this bundle on my test server with no problems, but my test server is also not an array, and my live server is.

The Custom Reports Tab page loaded just fine. On the Custom Reports page there are only 8 reports - all but two are from the Attendance folder, the other two are Fees. The others don't show up at all. I sure would like to know what I'm missing, or what I could do to make this package work.

Typically in an Array Setup you have what is known by Pearson/PowerSchool as a SharePoint which contains all the common folders that are to be replicated across each node, such as the reports folder, images folder and custom (web_pages). In this SharePoint Folder you should have placed the custom_reports package, keeping the folder structure and locations as it is in the zipped file.

For instance on my one application node I have my SharePoints folder which I called PowerSchool_Sharepoints. So my folder structure would be

D:\PowerSchool_SharePoints\custom\web_root\admin. Then I would copy all the folders from the zip file and put them into this admin folder.

If you have not setup a SharePoints folder on your array I would suggest doing so as it makes things a little bit easier.

If you have not setup a SharePoints folder and do not wish to do so then you will have to copy the custom reports on to each of your nodes.

Thanks for your advice, learning to work with the array has been interesting.

We added the files to each of the nodes and most of the reports are appearing now, as long as I'm logged in to a school. But if I'm in District mode I can't see the majority of them, and I'm confused about why. Any idea why the reports page displays differently between one school and another?

In addition, one of the folders of reports - the schedule folder, doesn't show up at all, and of course, that's the one I need, and I really

I'm also noticing that, on some of the reports, images are missing. The report still works fine but it has no header and no return button to get back to PowerSchool. This is mainly on a couple of the Attendance reports, do those images have to go on our image server someplace?

I have two folders than I see images in the reports bundle or other custom report; the Includes folder and another folder called Images.

Another missing section of the report

I just noticed that, on my custom reports page, neither the Enrollment section or the Schedule section displays on any of the pages. The folders and files are there in custom/web_root in the correct folders under Admin/Reports. Got it to work just fine on my test server but again, not my live one. The others work fine and display on school pages, though not when I switch to District mode.

Some reports not working

This bundle is wonderful! Unfortunately, some of these reports will not work. One in particular that I want to use is the Grade Setup report. Can someone give me some insight as to why it may not be working?

Nothing populates in the Final Grades Setup report

Hi,
I am new to Powerschool this year, and am glad to have found this site! I have just figured out how to use the custom pages, and have copied these to my server. We are setup on an array. Is the report supposed to call up the reports_engine (/admin/reports/reports_engine) as it does on the standard reports in powerschool? Right now it is only calling up this:
/admin/reports/grading/finalGradeSetups.html

Is this correct?

The report does not populate any info when I change any of the parameters.

Update to 6.2.1.1

Everything was working very well until this a.m. when I installed the 6.2.1.1 update. Now the Multiple Student Attendance List gives me a security violation warning. I'm guessing Pearson still has some work to do on that fix since it's hitting a variety of areas still. Do you think this might have knocked something out of whack with this report?

I have not updated to 6.2.1.1 yet so I can't comment with a definite answer. I've heard of these warnings in 6.2.1 but they were supposed to be fixed in 6.2.1.1 so I'm surprised you're seeing this in 6.2.1.1. What version were you updating from?

Security violation warning

I'm still getting this error message and I've updated to 6.2.1.2.0102 Is there a fix for these security violation errors? What is causing them? I've gotten the same error on other custom screens/reports as well.

Well, I guess you saw from the TechNote yesterday that the problem still arises. I was on 6.2.1 and updated to 6.2.1.1. They say they are working as fast as possible. How about "around the clock" until it gets fixed. This will not make a great start to a new year if they can't figure this out.

Custom Reports Bundle

I've just loaded the Custom Reports Bundle - love this package! One question: When I run the Final Grade Setup report, the results display my terms in triplicate. How can I clean this up? Has anyone else had this issue?

Is there a report the shows the Final Grade setups for an entire district? I'm wanting to get a report that shows all 78 schools in a district and what Final Grade Terms each school has defined. Is there anything like that?

There is a new version of the reports bundle on the way that may fix some of these issues. It'll be interesting to see how it works once that is applied.

Last Grade update

I can not seem to get the last Grade updaet report to run. I have donwloaded the Reports bundle. when I choose 4th quarter of last school year and 5 days, the tabs teacher, course number, course name, last update are blue while section number and expressons are black. When submit is hit, the same screen comes up. Do you have any suggestions?

After looking at the report, it won't run after the term ends. So you need to be in a active term to see results.

Detailed Grades Report, Take 2

So, digging  a little further as to why I wasn't getting any grades on this report, I figured out why.

The gradedisplaysetup/home.html from the Grades Verification system is needed, so that the terms are populated.

Can this be added to the bundle in the future?

Detailed Grades Report

This report has an include for admin/Includes/gradescolumns.html but that file doesn't seem to exist in the common includes v2.0 file. Does this come from somewhere else?

If you're new to adding custom pages, you'll want to read over the Customization Basic part in the Tips area first. Then take the reports bundle download and either copy the pages to your server in the admin folder or if you're using the custom web page management feature of 6, upload the pages. Use the folder structure in the download as a guide to where to place the files. For example, in the download folder there's an alerts folder in the admin folder, so you'll want to place those pages in your custom admin/alerts folder.

Since you're hosted, the custom web page management feature would be your best route because it'll let you do the uploading yourself. There are some possible drawbacks to using the feature, so be sure to read about those on PowerSource and Brian's blog at http://www.powerdatasolutions.org/content/custom-page-managment If you don't use it you'll have to put in a ticket and send PS the files and wait on them to add the files.

The basic tips doesn't discuss using the custom web page management feature, but you can find information on how to use it on PowerSource - just do a search on custom web page management user guide.

GradeBook Last Updated Report

Thank you all again for these great reports! I was at a PSUG-IL conference yesterday and they were advertising this site like crazy!

I have had the reports bundle for quite a while and use it frequently. One weird issue though--
The "Gradebook Last Updated Report" works for our high school, but not the middle school. They have courses and sections set up in a similar way and all use the gradebook the same way. When I run it for the middle school, it tells me how many sections have not updated, but does not list them. Any ideas how this report works for one but not the other? Thank you again!

For reference, the middle school report looks like:
Check for Classes that haven't been updated in day(s).
The above number of days is the current school prefernce.

Check the following file \admin\reports\grading\lastgbupdate.html. Search for ~(Section_Number and replace the code with ~(Section_Number;t). Also make sure that the course_number tag above it reads ~(Course_Number;t)

Grades Distribution Dashboard

I am using the Grades Distribution Dashboard and it is working beautifully except for my teachers that have an apostrophe after the first letter in their name - d'Entremont, O'Hare. Is there anyway that I can correct for these?

Problem with report bundle tlist_sql

I downloaded and installed the 1.0.6 and most stuff seems to work. I'm trying to get the final grade setup report to run and I am getting All Bins Non-select tlist_sql filtered out. I suspect this is my problem but I have no idea how to resolve it.

Web Gradebook assignment status report

Final Grade Setup Report

I am having problems with this report not returning data under certain parameters.

If I leave everything at the default, when I first bring up this page and choose nothing, I get no data returned.

If I choose S1 for the bin, I get no data returned.

If I choose a department, only a partial number of department members come up - not all. All teachers are assigned to a department.

If I choose a course, data is returned.

If I choose S1 for the bin and pick teachers individually, it returns data, with the exception of one teacher. His name has an apostrophe in it - could that be the problem with his?

Any ideas what is going on?

Detailed Grade Information

I am also unable to get any results from the Detailed Grade Information report. I'm sure it would give my counselors exactly what they are looking for if I could get it to work. I downloaded the latest bundle version and installed it on my test server running 6.1. The Final Grade setup report is awesome...what a great tool!! Thanks so much

I only get a result if I look for a specific student. Pulling other info I sometimes get 'Unable to connect' errors but I never get results.

Detailed Grade Report

Most of the reports in this bundle are amazing and very helpful! However, I am having trouble with the Detailed Grade Report. I have tried running this report for an individual teacher, an individual student, an individual teacher and student, an individual teacher, student, and course, and don't get any results. Any ideas? We are using bundle version 1.0.6. Thanks so much for all that you do!!!

final grades setups

We are looking at the final grades setups report and we are trying to understand what we are looking at. For many teachers, we see multiple names/weights repeated. Can someone help me understand what I am looking at?

The report shows how a specific Teacher weights each class. If a Teacher uses weighting it's important that they setup the same weight for all the appropriate classes. The report should show what a Teacher enters in the Grade Setup area of PowerTeacher Gradebook.

Final Grades Setups

This report is working great for our middle school. However, there are some differences when our high school tries to run it. All course terms show up, so we choose the appropriate term. However, for store code the only choices are S1, S2 and Y1. We want to check for Q3 - how can I get the quarters to show up? Final Grades Setup in PS is fine. Everything else in the report looks OK as far as the list of teachers, etc.

I am new to customizations, but I did get the "Find Me" report to work. I have downloaded the reports bundle and copied all files into the appropriate custom folders. The report tabs "custom reports", "custom dashboard" and "Custom sql reports" show up, but an error is displayed when I click on the tab - "The page you requested could not be found on this server (error 404)". I have enabled customizations (I tried unchecking, submitting, then checking it again). I also tried Rebuild Custom Page Links.
Any suggestions as to what step I may have missed?

Are you using the Custom Page Management? If you are you have to upload ever file using PS Sys Mgmt.

Is there a way to set it up so more than one teacher's set up can be seen? On the drop-down it has all teachers as an option so we were just wondering.

Not the way it's currently written. You could setup Course Departments to narrow the classes down. So you could do Math, LA, Science, History and then a Dept for each Shop. If you went this route I would make the Course Dept match the same in all the schools. That's what I would do anyway. B. Andle Windham Tech Electronics 1998. :)

Failed to Connect

Thanks for the speedy response. We are also getting a "Failed to Connect" error when we run it off of the test server. Any idea why this would occur? It ran fine for a while and then we started getting this error again.
